Description
Description Estradot patches are a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) designed for women who have gone through menopause. If you’ve had a hysterectomy (womb removal), this treatment is suitable for you. If you still have your womb, it is prescribed alongside utrogestan progesterone pills. The patches contain estradiol, a natural form of oestrogen. They help restore declining oestrogen levels, providing effective relief from menopause symptoms like hot flushes and night sweats, and also assist in preventing osteoporosis. Estradot can help protect against bone thinning (osteoporosis) Description Directions How to use it Choose an appropriate site: Select a clean, dry, and hairless area of your lower abdomen, preferably around the waist or hips. Avoid areas with broken skin or excessive sweating. Apply the patch: Peel the protective backing off the patch. Press the adhesive side of the patch onto your skin firmly for a few seconds to ensure it sticks well. Replace the patch: Estradot patches are typically worn for 3 to 4 days at a time, depending on your doctor's instructions. After this time, remove the old patch and apply a new one to a different area of your skin. Keep the patch on: The patch should remain in place for the full duration of its wear time, even when bathing or swimming. Follow your doctor's instructions: It's important to use the patches exactly as prescribed by your doctor, including how often to change them, and any additional medications like progesterone pills if applicable. Always read the instructions provided with the medication and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you're unsure. Directions Warnings Like all medicines, Estradot can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Serious Side Effects (rare): Get urgent medical help if you experience: Blood Clots: - Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): Swelling, redness, or pain in the legs. - Pulmonary embolism: Sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, or coughing up blood. - Stroke: Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg (especially on one side), confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech, trouble seeing, or loss of balance. - Heart attack: Pain or pressure in the chest, discomfort in the upper body (shoulders, arms, neck, jaw), shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, dizziness, or fainting. Cancer: - Breast cancer: Unexplained lumps in the breast, changes in breast tissue, or unusual pain. - Endometrial cancer (if you still have a womb): Abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain. Liver Problems: - Jaundice: Yellowing of the skin or eyes, which could indicate liver problems. - Severe abdominal pain: This could indicate gallbladder issues or liver-related problems. Severe Allergic Reactions: Rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing, which could indicate a serious allergic reaction. Severe Mental Health Changes: Depression or worsening mood changes that may require attention from a healthcare provider. If you experience any of these serious side effects while using Estradot patches, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical help. It’s also important to report any unusual or concerning symptoms to your doctor, as they may need to adjust your treatment plan. The most common side effects of Estradot patches are generally mild and temporary. They may include: - Skin Irritation at the Patch Site - Headaches or Migraines - Breast Tenderness or Pain: - Mild Nausea or Vomiting: - Mood Changes - Abdominal Discomfort or Bloating - Changes in Vaginal Bleeding These common side effects usually improve after the body adjusts to the hormone therapy. However, if any side effects are severe, persistent, or bothersome, it’s important to contact a healthcare provider for advice or potential adjustments to the treatment.
