Phormium Black Velvet 3 x 9cm Plants

Striking evergreen foliage in deep purple-black tones Architectural, upright habit for strong structure and contrast Ideal for contemporary borders, gravel gardens and containers Low maintenance and drought tolerant once established Phormium ‘Black Velvet’ is a bold, architectural evergreen that adds year-round drama and structure to the garden. Its long, strap-like leaves emerge in rich purple-black shades, creating a striking contrast against lighter planting and hard landscaping. With its upright, fountain-like form, it works beautifully as a focal point in modern schemes, mixed borders or large containers. Valued for both its colour and resilience, ‘Black Velvet’ thrives in a sunny position with free-draining soil and requires minimal maintenance once established. The foliage remains attractive throughout the year and copes well with drier conditions, making it ideal for low maintenance and coastal gardens. Whether used as a standalone feature or repeated through a planting scheme for impact, this phormium brings strong visual interest and contemporary style to gardens of all sizes.
