To cook a perfect soft boiled egg, place eggs in a small saucepan, and fill with enough cold water to cover the eggs by about 1cm (1/2 inch). Bring to a boil on high heat. When the water boils, reduce the heat to low so that you have a gentle simmer. Cook until done. Using the timer, boil your eggs for 2 minutes if you like eggs with a very soft yolk and egg white, or 3 minutes if you like the white just set, and a yolk that is starting to thicken.
