1989 Vintage Clover Gripoix Clip On Earrings

An exceptionally rare pair of gold plated clip-on earrings featuring a stylised clover drop with ruby red gripoix cabochons and a central sapphire blue Swarovski crystal. Suspended from a triangular ruby red gripoix top. Stamped with the Chanel authenticity mark for 1989. In 1869 Paris master glass-maker Augustina Gripoix began making crystals by pouring melted glass paste (Pâte de Verre) into press moulds and achieved purity of colour, transparency and shine. Coco Chanel was a loyal client of Madame Gripoix for many decades. These earrings are particularly rare as they feature bespoke triangular poured glass stones rather than the standard round or oval cabochons; each stone was hand-poured specifically to fit the custom "petal" frames of the clover design.
