About Clogau

Clogau is a Welsh heritage jewellery brand known for incorporating rare Welsh gold—the same gold cherished by the British Royal Family for over a century—into beautifully crafted, timeless designs. Each piece is guaranteed to contain authentic and rare Welsh gold, stamped with the exclusive CG and Welsh Dragon marks.

The brand's story began in 1989 when William Roberts discovered an abandoned gold mine in the mountains of Snowdonia—the Clogau St David's mine in Bontddu. This historic mine was once the largest and richest in the Dolgellau area, producing over 78,507 troy ounces of gold during its major operation from 1862 to 1911.

Welsh gold is famous for being selected to create Royal Family wedding rings, a tradition founded by The Queen Mother in 1923. The gold has since featured in the wedding rings of Her Majesty The Queen, Diana Princess of Wales, Princess Anne, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the Duchess of Sussex.

From just three employees in the early 1990s selling five pieces through local gift shops, Clogau is now a nationally-renowned brand sold worldwide. They won Brand of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards in both 2012 and 2015, plus Bridal Collection of the Year in 2015 for their Compose bespoke engagement rings.
