The James Brand was created in Portland, Oregon in 2012 by a group of designers and adventurers looking for something better. Based on the adage that if you can't find what you want, make it yourself, they put pen to paper and designed products with premium materials, minimalist aesthetics, and clear attention to detail.
Founder Ryan Coulter, an industrial designer with stints at Burton and Nike, built a team of skaters, snowboarders, fishermen, barbers, and photographers - people for whom 'everyday carry' means different things. The brand name honours a fictional character combining James Bond, James Dean, and Captain James Cook.
