ishga

ishga is an award-winning organic seaweed skincare brand from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland's Outer Hebrides, founded in 2010 by Malcolm Macrae, Martin McLeod, and Leon Trayling. The name ishga is derived from the Gaelic word for water, reflecting the brand's deep connection to its island origins. The brand uses sustainably hand-harvested seaweed from the pristine waters surrounding the Hebridean Islands. Four types of seaweed form the heart of their organic skincare range, each selected for its unique beneficial properties for the skin. All products are developed, manufactured, and packaged at their facility in Stornoway. ishga emerged from the Hebridean Seaweed Company, which holds the only commercial licence to harvest seaweed in that region of Scotland. The founders combined expertise in marine biology, chemistry, seaweed harvesting, and the spa industry to create a skincare brand that would showcase this natural Scottish resource. Today, ishga employs 28 people locally and has grown to become one of Scotland's largest producers of skincare products. They export to multiple countries worldwide and have received numerous awards for their commitment to quality, sustainability, and celebrating Scottish heritage.
