io Gut Health is the online shop for ió Gut Health Drink, a prebiotic fibre drink from The Prebiotic Company Ltd of Edinburgh (Companies House SC613628). The company was incorporated in November 2018, its co-founders Jay, Aly and Mohs date the project to 2019, and the drink launched in May 2022. It took its current ió Gut Health Drink name in 2025.
Each flavour has 6g of fibre and 21 kcal per bottle, according to the brand's FAQ, of which 4.5g is chicory root fibre. ió says its chicory root fibre carries two health claims authorised in the UK and EU: it supports normal gut function by increasing stool frequency, with the effect obtained from 12g a day, about 2.7 bottles; and, eaten instead of sugars, it leads to a lower rise in blood glucose after meals. The brand also cites independent research by Glasgow Caledonian University on gut bacteria. Unopened bottles keep at room temperature; once opened they should be chilled and finished within 24 hours.
Delivery is free on every order, as the FAQ and cart both state, and the Shopify store ships to the UK and 27 EU countries. Delivery times are not published.
Refunds must be requested within 14 days of receiving an order, and the goods then have a further 14 days to reach the company, unused and in their original packaging. Return postage is refunded only when goods arrive faulty or the wrong item was sent. Faulty or wrong deliveries are reported to the returns team by email with order details and photographs; without photos a claim is refused. The customer then chooses a full refund or replacement goods, and refunds are paid within 10 days of the return arriving.
The drink took the drink innovation category of the World Food Innovation Awards in March 2023 and the Scottish Edge Wildcard Award for innovation, and the company was named Beverage Company of the Year in the Corporate Highwire Innovation and Excellence Awards.
io Gut Health is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland.
