About Airfix

Airfix is an iconic British brand and the UK's oldest manufacturer of injection-moulded plastic scale model kits since 1952. Founded by Nicholas Kove in 1939, Airfix has become practically synonymous with plastic modelling in the UK, with the brand name serving as a generic term for any injection-moulded model kit.

The range covers military aircraft, civil aircraft, ships, galleons, cars, space, figures, dioramas and military vehicles. Famous releases include the Golden Hind (1952) and the iconic Spitfire (1953). In the mid-1970s, Airfix commanded 75% of the UK market with 20 million kits sold annually.

Acquired by Hornby Hobbies in 2006 for £2.6 million, Airfix has experienced a renaissance with reissued classics, improved tooling and new computer-aided designs while maintaining its essential British character.
