Loose Leaf Black TeaOriginDimbula is the area on the western slopes of Sri Lanka's central mountain range, between the plateaus of Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains, and was one of the earliest areas to be planted with tea after the great coffee blight of the 1870s. It is classed as a high-grown tea (altitude over 4,000ft), with a wet, misty climate but is also subject to cool dry winds in the first months of the year. These winds create conditions when, each February and March, slow-growing and small-leaved tea bushes of exceptional quality are cultivated.Tea DescriptionWe have selected this tea as our current favourite of the distinctive Dimbula style. High grown Ceylon teas are manufactured with a smallish 'broken' leaf grade, traditionally smaller and browner than the teas grown in the low-lying regions. These leaves produce juicy, bright and mouth-watering teas with a note of refreshing citrus; the liquor is medium-bodied, coppery and fantastically thirst-quenching. Loose leaf tea made simple.
