Queen Elizabeth II received a rough 54.5 carat pink diamond as a wedding gift in 1947. It was given to her by Canadian geologist, Dr. John Thorburn Williamson. The gem was then cut into a 23.6-carat round brilliant-cut diamond, which was then set in a white diamond flower brooch designed by Frederick Mew of Cartier in London in 1953.
