This low-maintenance shrub is a popular choice for filling gaps in borders with long seasonal interest, and can also be close-planted in rows to form a showy hedge. Grow Spiraea in a sunny position, in any fertile, moist, well-drained soil. For best performance, prune flowered shoots of Spiraea plants immediately after flowering. Mature specimens can be cut back by a quarter of the old shoots to the base.
