‘Sunny Star’ is a classic pyrancantha, with less thorns than usual and berries that glow brighter than the sun! You can expect these glorious berries to appear throughout the winter months, which will transcend from lime green to butter yellow and golden orange, ensuring colour in your garden in the dark dull months. This reliable hardy shrub is the ideal plant for creating sturdy protective fencing, due to its compact forest green foliage, that will feature dainty pearly white blooms throughout spring. Grow Pyracantha plants as free-standing shrubs train as a hedge, or grow against a wall or fence. Plant Firethorn into any well drained, reliably moist soil in sun or semi shade. Choose a position with shelter from cold, drying winds. Feed and water Pyracantha plants regularly until full established. Prune free-standing shrubs in early spring, removing damaged and poorly positioned shoots. For wall trained shrubs, tie in main shoots to form part of the permanent framework, and cut back unwanted shoots to the main stem. After flowering in summer, shorten the remaining stems to 3 leaves from the base, in order to expose the developing berries, and maximise the display. Remove any old fruit trusses in spring to make room for new growth. Caution: harmful if eaten.
