Each individual bloom blends from pink to creamy-white and apple-green, so no two flowers are ever the same! Ideal as a patio shrub or planted in lightly shaded borders, this compact deciduous shrub makes a showy patio plant that gives a mesmerising display all summer. Each autumn the foliage turns to red and gold and the faded flower heads extend the season of interest well into winter. As with many varieties, these cultivars produce slightly different colour tones depending on the soil pH. Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.
