& Crocus ( saffron) Sativus 20 Bulbs is available for £11.99 at Robert Dyas.
Crocus sativus, commonly known as Saffron Crocus, produces rich purple flowers in autumn, adding colour to the garden as the season begins to change. The orange-red stigmas are the source of saffron, one of the world's most valuable spices, and can be collected from the flowers and dried for culinary use. Even if you don't plan to harvest the saffron, these attractive autumn-flowering Crocus make a colourful addition to borders, rockeries and patio containers. They are particularly effective when planted in groups and can also be naturalised in grass. How to Grow Plant Crocus sativus bulbs in autumn in well-drained soil in full sun or semi shade. For the best display, plant the bulbs in large groups at a depth of approximately 10cm (4") and space them around 7cm (3") apart. Saffron Crocus can also be grown in containers or naturalised in grass. Avoid planting in areas where the soil becomes waterlogged, as good drainage is important for healthy growth. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2"). Features: Grow your own Saffron!
