A versatile addition to the summer garden, thriving in the sun or shade. Will brighten up even the dullest corners! Shades of red, pink and creamy white flowers among the colourful green and bronze leaves. Small compact plants which will look good in your borders, pots and containers alike! Long continuous flowering period from early summer until the first frosts! Sow on the surface of a good seed compost from late winter to early spring and seal in a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 2-3 weeks at 21C (70F). Do not exclude light which is beneficial to germination. Transplant carefully when large enough to handle into 8cm (3in) pots, and grow on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost 25-30cm (9-12in) apart in well cultivated garden soil and sun or part shade. Feed and water plants frequently throughout the growing season taking care not to over-water, as this will cause new flower buds to drop. Deadhead the single female begonia flowers to encourage more of the large double male flowers to be produced and to extend the flowering period.
