Grow these amazing Asters to make a magnificent show in your borders! These wonderful half-hardy annual flowers are reminiscent of chrysanthemums, with their large, incurved flower heads in a strong colour mix that you’ll love. 'Duchess Mixed' produces upright, strong growing plants which will delight you with their blooms from July to October. Enjoy the fabulous flowers the same year as you sow them and pick some of the bold blooms as long-lasting cut flowers for your home. Sow March to April. Germinate at 20-30C (68-86F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Do not cover seed. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 7-21 days. Do not exclude light at any stage, as this helps germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler, well-lit conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm(12in) apart.
