The leaves will turn a golden yellow colour in autumn and when they fall, they will reveal fluted, grey coloured branches that will continue to look good throughout the winter months. Prior to planting Hornbeam, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil. Water young plants during particularly dry periods until fully established.
