From June to October, Verbena nana compacta ‘Magenta’ produces vibrant clusters of magenta-pink flowers above low, spreading mounds of delicate foliage. This variety is quick and easy to grow, flowering early and continuing without pause until the first frosts. It is heat and drought tolerant, making it an excellent choice for summer planting. Suitable for borders, containers, and hanging baskets, it can be grown as a single striking display or combined with other bedding plants for a colourful mix. The blooms are also highly attractive to beneficial pollinators, adding extra value to your garden. Sow Verbena from February to April on the surface of a good free-draining, damp seed compost and lightly cover with vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag, maintaining a temperature of 24–27°C (75–81°F) until after germination, which usually takes 14–21 days. Do not exclude light as it aids germination. Keep the compost on the dry side, watering lightly as seedlings emerge.
