Trachycarpus fortunei - Seeds Windmill Palm Hardy Shrub The Chusan Palm is unmistakable with its upright, shaggy trunk and large palmate leaves held on long stems. During summer, male clones produce dense panicles of sulphur yellow flowers, while female flowers are followed by attractive blue-black, kidney-shaped fruits. Exceptionally hardy, Trachycarpus fortunei thrives in cool, wet summers and cold winters, and tolerates partial shade to full sun. Growing Instructions: Sow seeds in spring after filing or nicking the hard seed coat, then soak in warm water for 1–3 days, changing water daily. Sow into modules with gritty compost, keep in a plastic bag or propagator to retain humidity, in a warm, light place at 15–20°C. Germination takes around two months. Pot on seedlings into 9cm pots once germinated, and plant out into a well-drained, sheltered position in full sun or partial shade. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade.
