-Sunflower 'Astra Rose' is a unique variety with a distinctive flower form and colour. Semi-double flowers with slender ray florets surround a fluffy chocolate centre. The petals emerge in soft cream before transforming into apricot and pink, creating a subtle, vintage palette perfect for cottage garden borders. A multi-branching sunflower, Helianthus annuus 'Astra Rose' produces numerous heads over a longer season than single stem types. Regular dead-heading encourages continuous flowering. Plant at the back of borders to create a novel sunflower display. Growing Instructions Sow early spring to early summer outdoors where plants are to flower. Prepare the soil well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm deep in rows 30cm apart. Germination usually takes around 21 days. Seeds can also be sown indoors in early spring in 7. 5cm pots for earlier flowers. Germination takes 1-2 weeks at 20°C. Thin seedlings to 30cm apart once large enough to handle. Acclimatise indoor-sown seedlings gradually to outdoor conditions before planting after frost risk has passed. Protect seedlings from slugs and snails. Prefers well-drained soil in full sun.
