Thompson & Morgans Bunching Onion Ishikura is part of the prestigious Kew Vegetable Seed Collection, specially selected in partnership with the experts at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This perennial variety (Allium fistulosum) is perfect for gardeners looking for long-term harvests with minimal replanting. Ishikura is a non-bulbing, hardy onion variety, offering consistent yields of pencil-thin spring onions or thicker, mini-leek style stems. Once sown, it can remain productive in the vegetable plot for years, providing you with fresh, mild-flavoured stems from spring through to the first frosts. More cold tolerant than Welsh Onions, it continues to produce even in cooler months with a bit of protection. Its a great low-maintenance crop perfect for edging beds, mixing into perennial veg borders, or planting as a companion to deter insect pests. Allowing a few plants to flower attracts pollinators and encourages biodiversity. Clumps can be divided every few years to refresh their vigour and extend your harvests. Sow directly into well-drained soil in spring or start indoors in modules. Avoid freshly manured ground. Thin seedlings to allow space for growth and water during dry spells. While harvested onions dont store for long, theyre best enjoyed fresh and regularly picked. Images shown are for guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e. g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months). Decorative pots are not supplied. Features: Hardy, non-bulbing perennial onion harvest year after year Mild-flavoured stems for use as spring onions or mini-leeks Highly productive and cold-hardy Japanese variety Attractive, edible plant ideal for edging beds or companion planting Specifications: Dimensions: H:5 x W:5 x D:5 cm Weight: 0.2 kg Model Number: KC9732
