Spinach 'Patton' F1 is a hardy and highly reliable variety of Spinacia oleracea, producing robust, upright plants with thick, dark green, slightly wavy leaves. This quick-growing, bolt-resistant spinach is ideal for harvesting as baby leaves or when mature. With excellent resistance to downy mildew, 'Patton' performs brilliantly in summer conditions and is equally suitable for winter cropping in a cold greenhouse. Perfect for sowing in both spring and autumn, this variety grows to a height and spread of 30cm (12in) and matures in approximately 42 days. Sow outdoors from March to July in fertile, moist soil in full sun or part shade. For early and late crops, sow under cover. Sow seeds 1cm (½") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart. Thin seedlings to 5cm (2") apart when large enough to handle. Regular watering is essential to prevent bolting, particularly during dry weather. Apply a mulch around plants to help retain soil moisture and keep weeds at bay by hoeing regularly. Harvest leaves as needed for ongoing supply or lift whole plants once mature.
