Description

Pea 'Sweet Horizon' from the Kew Vegetable Seed Collection is an exceptional mangetout pea, specially selected alongside experts from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This hardy annual snow pea has shown outstanding performance in Thompson & Morgan trials, thriving in a range of weather conditions including summer drought and winter wet. Its resistance to mildew makes it ideal for UK gardeners looking for a reliable, long-harvest crop. Producing sweet, predominantly stringless pods, ‘Sweet Horizon’ delivers heavy yields when sown successively from March to June. With a height of 90cm (36") and spread of 30cm (12"), this variety is well-suited to garden beds and allotments alike. Its extended cropping period runs through to October, providing a long season of fresh, crunchy pods perfect for stir-fries, salads, or straight from the plant. Direct sow outdoors from March to June in full sun, once soil has warmed. Prepare moist, fertile, well-drained soil, free of weeds. Sow seeds 5cm (2") apart, 4cm (1½") deep, in rows 75cm (30") apart. Support the plants with twigs, wire, or netting. Use fine mesh to deter birds and pests. Water regularly, especially during flowering, to boost yields. Begin harvesting edible pods 12–13 weeks after sowing, just as the peas inside start to form. Picking frequently will encourage more pods. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e. g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months). Decorative pots are not supplied.
