Decals for 3 versions.. The twin-engine Fokker F-27 Friendship was developed in the 1950s by the Dutch company to provide a substitute for the dated Douglas DC-3s in service since World War II. It immediately achieved good commercial success in both civilian and military applications and was also licensed in the United States. The two Rolls-Royce 2,250 Hp turboprop engines were able to reach the aircraft a maximum speed of 460 km/h. The Fokker F-27 was used, since its start of production, by numerous European airlines that found it ideal for short-range routes. The adoption of two turboprop engines, compared to traditional piston engines, also reduced vibration and significantly increased comfort on board. The aircraft was very versatile and was also used for freight transport, military troop transport and maritime and coastal patrol.
