The Elta Multiflow SMB550/4-1AC is a 550mm square inline mixed flow box fan with a single phase AC motor, moving up to 5314 m³/h in free air and 3827 m³/h against 200 Pa. It fits straight into 550mm ductwork on Ductmate flanges at each end.The 4 pole motor runs at 1280 rpm on a 220 to 240V 50Hz supply, absorbing 0.574 kW with a peak current of 2.67 A, and has sealed for life bearings. The casing is stiffened pre-galvanised sheet steel, the impeller has 7 backward curved aerofoil blades in high performance composite, and it handles air up to 60°C. It keeps 4680 m³/h at 100 Pa, 3827 m³/h at 200 Pa and still 2365 m³/h at 300 Pa.Above about 300 Pa the airflow drops sharply (1076 m³/h at 350 Pa). If you have three phase available, the SMB550/4-3AC moves far more air from the same casing.Why choose this over alternativesAgainst the three phase SMB550/4-3AC, this single phase model moves much less air (5314 against 7952 m³/h in free air), because the single phase motor is smaller (0.574 kW against 1.064 kW). Choose this one only where a three phase supply is not available.Within the single phase range, it sits above the SMB500/4-1AC (3856 m³/h free air) and below the SMB650/4-1AC (7974 m³/h).Installation notes Mount the fan at any angle in the duct run, securely supported, and leave access for maintenance. It weighs 41 kg. Connect with the 550mm Ductmate flanges at each end. Elta's flexible connectors (063-0550-MFB) and anti vibration mounts (062-003) reduce transmitted noise and vibration. Wire to Elta diagram 152-104A on a 230V single phase supply. The thermal cut out terminals (TB) must be connected into the control circuit, and Elta specify the 149-TC110 transformer controller for speed control. Fit a means of isolation and earth the fan. Fuses and breakers only give short circuit protection, so Elta advise a starter with overload protection for the motor. Check rotation, airflow direction and running current on first start. Not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. Locate the discharge away from open flues, and inspect and clean the impeller and motor at least every 12 months.
