The Elta Multiflow SMB500/4-1AC is a 500mm square inline mixed flow box fan with a single phase AC motor, moving up to 3856 m³/h in free air and 2646 m³/h against 200 Pa. It fits straight into 500mm ductwork on Ductmate flanges at each end.The 4 pole motor runs at 1385 rpm on a 220 to 240V 50Hz supply, absorbing 0.386 kW with a peak current of 1.99 A, and has sealed for life bearings. The casing is stiffened pre-galvanised sheet steel, the impeller has 7 backward curved aerofoil blades in high performance composite, and it handles air up to 60°C. It holds 3388 m³/h at 100 Pa and 2646 m³/h at 200 Pa.It runs out of pressure above 250 Pa (486 m³/h at 300 Pa). For higher resistance or more air, the SMB550 or SMB650 is the better choice.Why choose this over alternativesAgainst the three phase SMB500/4-3AC, this single phase model moves almost the same air in free air (3856 against 3888 m³/h) and draws 1.99 A on 230V against 0.88 A per phase. It is the straightforward choice where only a single phase supply is available.The SMB450/4-1AC has almost identical performance with a 450mm connection, so pick between the two on duct size. For more air, the SMB550/4-1AC moves 5314 m³/h.Installation notes Mount the fan at any angle in the duct run, securely supported, and leave access for maintenance. It weighs 27 kg. Connect with the 500mm Ductmate flanges at each end. Elta's flexible connectors (063-0500-MFB) and anti vibration mounts (062-002) reduce transmitted noise and vibration. The thermal cut out terminals (TB) must be connected into the control circuit, and Elta specify the 149-TC14 transformer controller for speed control. Fit a means of isolation and earth the fan. Fuses and breakers only give short circuit protection, so Elta advise a starter with overload protection for the motor. Check rotation, airflow direction and running current on first start. Not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. Locate the discharge away from open flues, and inspect and clean the impeller and motor at least every 12 months.
