The Elta Multiflow SMB500/4-3AC is a 500mm square inline mixed flow box fan with a three phase AC motor, moving up to 3888 m³/h in free air and still delivering 346 m³/h against 300 Pa. It fits straight into 500mm ductwork on Ductmate flanges at each end.The 4 pole motor runs at 1380 rpm on a 380 to 415V 50Hz supply, absorbing 0.386 kW with a peak current of 0.88 A, and has sealed for life bearings. The casing is stiffened pre-galvanised sheet steel, the impeller has 7 backward curved aerofoil blades in high performance composite, and it handles air up to 60°C. Elta give a 12 month warranty. 3 Phase AC Motor Up to 3888 m³/h Speed Controllable What it is best used forThree phase commercial extract or supply on 500mm ductwork: restaurant and kitchen canopy extract with grease filtration, lift motor rooms, plant rooms, car park offices and general HVAC. It holds 3445 m³/h at 100 Pa and 2678 m³/h at 200 Pa, slightly more than the 450 at those working pressures.It is not a bigger fan than the SMB450/4-3AC in free air (3888 against 3920 m³/h). Choose it when the duct is 500mm and you want to avoid a reducer, not to get more air. If you need more than about 4000 m³/h or more than 250 Pa, go to the SMB550/4-3AC.Why choose this over alternativesThe SMB500/4-3AC and the SMB450/4-3AC have the same 0.88 A peak current and almost the same curve; the 500 gives slightly more at 100 to 200 Pa and a larger 500mm connection, which means lower duct velocity and no reducer on a 500mm system. Against the single phase SMB500, it moves about the same air but draws 0.88 A per phase at 400V instead of 1.99 A at 230V.For a clear step up in airflow, the SMB550/4-3AC roughly doubles it to 7952 m³/h.Installation notes Mount the fan at any angle in the duct, securely supported, and leave access for maintenance. It weighs 27 kg. Connect with the 500mm Ductmate flanges at each end. Elta's 500mm flexible connectors (063-0500-MFB) and anti vibration mounts (062-002) reduce transmitted noise and vibration. Wire to Elta diagram 152-106A: star connection for a 400V three phase supply. To reverse rotation swap any two incoming supply cables, and check rotation and airflow direction on first start. Fit a means of isolation, earth the fan, and protect the motor with a starter that has overload protection; fuses and breakers only give short circuit protection. Not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. Inspect and clean the impeller and motor at least every 12 months.
