The Elta Multiflow SMB450/4-1AC is a 450mm square inline mixed flow box fan with a single phase AC motor, moving up to 3830 m³/h in free air and 2596 m³/h against 200 Pa. It fits straight into 450mm ductwork on Ductmate flanges at each end.The 4 pole motor runs at 1385 rpm on a 220 to 240V 50Hz supply, absorbing 0.391 kW with a peak current of 2.05 A, and has sealed for life bearings. The casing is stiffened pre-galvanised sheet steel, the impeller has 7 backward curved aerofoil blades in high performance composite, and it handles air up to 60°C. It holds 3337 m³/h at 100 Pa and 2596 m³/h at 200 Pa.The curve falls away after 250 Pa (518 m³/h at 300 Pa), so for high resistance systems or anything much over 3500 m³/h choose the SMB550 instead.Why choose this over alternativesAgainst the three phase SMB450/4-3AC, this single phase model moves slightly less air in free air (3830 against 3920 m³/h) and draws 2.05 A on 230V against 0.88 A per phase. It is the straightforward choice where only a single phase supply is available.Within the single phase range, it sits above the SMB400/4-1AC (2552 m³/h free air). The SMB500/4-1AC has almost identical performance (3856 m³/h) with a 500mm connection, so pick between the two on duct size.Installation notes Mount the fan at any angle in the duct run, securely supported, and leave access for maintenance. It weighs 23 kg. Connect with the 450mm Ductmate flanges at each end. Elta's flexible connectors (063-0450-MFB) and anti vibration mounts (062-002) reduce transmitted noise and vibration. The thermal cut out terminals (TB) must be connected into the control circuit, and Elta specify the 149-TC14 transformer controller for speed control. Fit a means of isolation and earth the fan. Fuses and breakers only give short circuit protection, so Elta advise a starter with overload protection for the motor. Check rotation, airflow direction and running current on first start. Not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. Locate the discharge away from open flues, and inspect and clean the impeller and motor at least every 12 months.
