The Elta Multiflow SMB400/4-1AC is a 400mm square inline mixed flow box fan with a single phase AC motor, moving up to 2552 m³/h in free air and 893 m³/h against 200 Pa. It fits straight into 400mm ductwork on Ductmate flanges at each end.The 4 pole motor runs at 1370 rpm on a 220 to 240V 50Hz supply, absorbing 0.212 kW with a peak current of 1.09 A, and has sealed for life bearings. The casing is stiffened pre-galvanised sheet steel, the impeller has 7 backward curved aerofoil blades in high performance composite, and it handles air up to 60°C. Elta give a 12 month warranty. 1 Phase AC Motor Up to 2552 m³/h Speed Controllable What it is best used forShort to medium duct runs on a single phase supply with 400mm ductwork: lift motor rooms, plant rooms, toilet and changing area extract in offices and schools, small cafe and restaurant extract behind a filtered canopy, and general HVAC supply or extract. It keeps 2092 m³/h at 100 Pa and 1692 m³/h at 150 Pa.Its curve drops away quickly above 150 Pa (893 m³/h at 200 Pa and only 130 m³/h at 250 Pa), so it is the wrong fan for long runs with heat exchangers, heavy filtration or attenuators. For more pressure step up to the SMB450 or SMB500.Why choose this over alternativesAgainst the three phase SMB400/4-3AC, this single phase model moves almost the same air in free air (2552 against 2545 m³/h), but draws 1.09 A on 230V against 0.52 A per phase on the three phase motor. If 230V is all you have, it is the right choice.The square Ductmate flanged casing bolts straight into rectangular or square duct and can be mounted at any angle. The next single phase size up, the SMB450/4-1AC, moves 3830 m³/h and goes on to 300 Pa.Installation notes Mount the fan at any angle in the duct run, securely supported, and leave access for maintenance. It weighs 16 kg. Connect with the 400mm Ductmate flanges at each end. Elta's flexible connectors (063-0400-MFB) and anti vibration mounts (062-002) reduce transmitted noise and vibration. Wire to Elta diagram 152-104A on a 230V single phase supply. The thermal cut out terminals (TB) must be connected into the control circuit, and Elta specify the 149-TC14 transformer controller for speed control. Fit a means of isolation and earth the fan. Fuses and breakers only give short circuit protection, so Elta advise a starter with overload protection for the motor. Check rotation, airflow direction and running current on first start. Not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. Locate the discharge away from open flues, and inspect and clean the impeller and motor at least every 12 months.
