Irish beer boasts a rich history, with evidence of brewing dating back to the Bronze Age. Historically, Irish beer was primarily ale, often flavoured with herbs like gentian before the widespread use of hops. Now lager is more widespread. Monasteries played a crucial role in brewing for centuries, and by the 18th century, commercial brewing emerged, with Kilkenny and Dublin becoming prominent brewing centres. The 19th century saw a rise in the number of breweries, but this trend later reversed. Today, Irish beer is known for its stouts like Guinness, as well as lagers, red ales, and the increasing popularity of Irish craft beers. | Belleek Classic Beer Tankard Ornament in Yellow
