WUKA, standing for Wake Up Kick Ass, is a sustainable period underwear brand founded in November 2017 by Ruby Raut, an Environmental Scientist from Nepal, and her husband Dave via Kickstarter. Inspired by growing up in Nepal where shame about periods was widespread and the word nachune means untouchable, Ruby created the UK's first period pants that can completely replace disposable pads and tampons. Raising £7,000 via Kickstarter, their first order came on December 21, 2017. Today, WUKA is a multimillion-pound company with over 200,000 loyal customers, selling 700,000+ products in 46 countries. Stocked from Whole Foods to Superdrug, WUKA achieved B Corp certification with a score of 111.4 and the Queen's Award for Sustainable Development.
