Liberty was founded in 1875 by Arthur Lasenby Liberty, who opened his first store at 218a Regent Street with just three staff and a £2,000 loan. The store quickly became known for bringing beautiful and exotic products from around the world to London.
The iconic Tudor revival building on Great Marlborough Street was constructed in 1924 using timbers from two ships - HMS Impregnable and HMS Hindustan. Now a Grade II* listed building, it remains one of London's most distinctive retail landmarks.
Liberty became so closely associated with the Art Nouveau movement that in Italy it became known as "Stile Liberty." Today, the store is world-famous for its bold floral print fabrics and curated selection of luxury fashion, beauty, homeware and gifts.
