RANAVAT was founded in 2017 by Michelle Ranavat, a first-generation Indian American and mother of two. The brand was born after Michelle experienced severe postpartum hair loss following the birth of her child in 2016, discovering that the only thing that helped was Ayurvedic oil from India. Impressed by the results, Michelle delved deep into learning Ayurvedic principles and, with the help of her father and his pharmaceutical business, RANAVAT was born. The brand became the first South Asian-founded Ayurvedic skincare brand to launch in the USA and recently became the first luxury South Asian-founded skincare company to launch at Sephora. RANAVAT formulas are thoughtfully made in India, using time-intensive Ayurvedic techniques that unfold over many days - far longer than the typical few-hour manufacturing processes used in conventional skincare. Each product is custom developed alongside Ayurvedic doctors and expert chemists, blending the best of Ayurvedic and modern science. All formulas use locally-sourced adaptogenic ingredients like ashwagandha, saffron, wild turmeric, and amla - the same ingredients used by royal families of ancient India. The brand honours these Ayurvedic traditions in a way that feels modern, inclusive, and grounded in science. RANAVAT is female and minority founded and owned, award-winning, and partners with world-leading retailers including Sephora, Harrods, and Cult Beauty. The brand donates 1% of proceeds to the Desai Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and children through education in rural India and the US.
