Pantee was founded in London in 2019 by sisters Katie and Amanda McCourt, with the idea born in a thrift store when Amanda was blown away by the number of brand-new t-shirts lining the shelves with tags still attached. Naming the business Pantee (an abridged version of "pants made from deadstock tees"), they launched via Kickstarter in November 2020.
Pantee creates underwear from deadstock T-shirts or T-shirt fabric (95% cotton, 5% elastane), with manufacturing in Bangladesh and Portugal. Since launching, the company has upcycled more than 1,500 kgs of deadstock fabric in its first 1.5 years alone.
The sisters were named among Drapers 30 Under 30 rising stars of fashion retail for 2022 after raising £190,000 in funding. Pantee is a member of 1% for the Planet, pledging 1% of revenue to environmental organisations, and plants one tree for every order placed.
