Cole & Mason launched the Capstan mill, hand-turned in Park Green, which was an instant success under the Peter Piper brand and remains virtually unchanged today. They later launched the world's first acrylic mill, the iconic 505, inspired by acrylic doorknobs seen at a dinner party - a design that remains a popular, timeless classic. Cole & Mason secured a patent for the innovative Duo mill, a clever design combining salt and pepper in one vessel for a stylish, space-saving solution. The brand also pioneered electronic grinders with 'the Manhattan', proving their commitment to innovation. Achieving national and international success, Cole & Mason was awarded the Queen's Award for Export Achievement, having become the UK's number one brand for salt and pepper mills during the early 1980s. Their Derwent pepper mill has been awarded America's Test Kitchen's "All-Time Favorite Pepper Mill".
