ABBYY is an American technology company specialising in AI-powered document processing, data capture, process mining, and optical character recognition (OCR). Founded in 1989 by David Yang as BIT Software in Moscow, the company introduced OCR technology in the early 1990s and has since invested heavily in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and machine learning.

With over 35 years of expertise, ABBYY is trusted by more than 10,000 organisations worldwide including Fortune 500 companies. The company is recognised as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape for Worldwide Intelligent Document Processing Software for the second consecutive year, cementing its position as the market leader.

Key products include ABBYY FineReader for PDF and document processing, ABBYY Vantage for intelligent document recognition and data retrieval, FlexiCapture for enterprise document processing, and Timeline for process mining and simulation. As of 2023, ABBYY employs approximately 500 people across 13 countries, with CEO Ulf Persson leading the company. In October 2024, ABBYY announced plans to move headquarters to Austin, Texas while maintaining operations in Milpitas, California.
