Trachelospermum jasminoides, commonly known as Star Jasmine, is not actually part of the jasmine family, although it does have a similar look. This vigorous evergreen climber is the ideal plant for providing a year-round screen of attractive glossy leaves on woody, twining stems. From mid-summer onwards, it bursts into bloom with clusters of pretty star-like flowers which have a delicate, sweet fragrance - perfect for growing next to a seating area where the perfume can be appreciated on warm summer evenings. This easy-to-grow climber has a relatively unfussy nature, thriving in most conditions and putting on a wonderful, effortless display. During autumn, you’ll be rewarded with another burst of colour from the foliage, which turns to a deep red and bronze. 2-litre potted star jasmine plants can be planted straight outside during mild conditions. Plant Trachelospermum jasminoides in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade. In particularly cold areas, Trachelospermum jasminoides is best grown in patio containers filled with a loam-based compost. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate support such as trellis, wires, pergola or arch. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season.
