The Mirabilis jalapa ‘Broken Colours’ will flower all the summer in a range of attractive col-ours with cerise marble effect splashes! Small buds will open in the evening and early morn-ing each day releasing a beautiful delicate fragrance. Attractive to bees, birds and butter-flies. Will self-seed. Perfect for a wildlife or sensory garden. Germinate from February to May at 18-20C (64-68F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Apply a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite, just covering the seed. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 7-21 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Transplant seedlings, when large enough to handle, into 7.5cm (3in) pots and grow on in cooler conditions for at least 10-15 days be-fore planting out. Plant outside after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart. Harmful if eat-en.
