Lithops are compact and exceptionally low maintenance houseplants that always make an intriguing display! Curious and slow growing succulents, these interesting little plants camouflage themselves as rounded pebbles, hence their common name of Living Stone Plant! At maturity, they can produce a few daisy-like flowers in late summer. Easy to grow from seed but very slow growing - you’ll need patience but it will be worth it. Ideal for a bright windowsill, why not group them together for maximum impact? Height and spread: 5cm (2"). Please note: some houseplants are toxic or harmful to pets if ingested. If you believe your pet has consumed a poisonous plant then seek veterinary attention immediately. Take a sample of the plant with you. Sow Lithops seeds on the surface of a free-draining, gritty compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of silver sand. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag, maintaining a temperature of 18-27°C (65-80°F) until after germination, which can be erratic and usually takes 2-12 weeks. Do not exclude light when growing as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into trays or 5cm (2") pots of gritty potting mix and continue to grow in warm conditions. Once they are well grown, pot Lithops plants on into 7.5cm (3") pots, and water carefully until established. Lithops are slow growing so patience is required.
