Syringa double lilac Madame lemonie is an elegant trouble free variety with nectar rich fragrant flowers that are loved by butterflies. With strong spreading branches that hold double white flowers with heart shaped foliage. A great specimen shrub for a cottage garden that requires little maintenance. Height and Spread: 7m (22”). Culinary note: Adding the fragrant flowers to cream cheese or even yoghurt for a hint of lemon flavour. Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. Pot up lilac plants and grow them on until large enough to plant out in their final positions. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. If received in the autumn, over-winter Syringa plants in a sheltered position, either in a cold frame, cool greenhouse or porch, ready for planting out in spring. Transplant lilac plants into rich fertile, well drained, neutral or alkaline soil in full sun. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Prune lilac bushes in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping the remaining stems. After pruning, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the shrub.
