Beautifully simple, pure white blooms, each with a tiny blue eye, are produced en-masse on this variety of the popular garden shrub. Hydrangea macrophylla 'Soeur Thérèse' has dark green foliage which really helps show off its flowers. Flower-heads will fade to have a pale pink-green hue later in the season and remain on the plant until the spring, providing winter interest in the garden. Easy to grow and keep, Hydrangeas are a perfect addition to any garden, large or small, as they provide interest and colour throughout the year. Grow in a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds, in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant in a patio container or pot in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Leave the faded flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant.
