Description
Hydrangea ‘Glowing Embers’ is a compact variety perfect for smaller gardens, and gives two flushes of flower through the summer months. As autumn approaches, the foliage will turn to deep maroon. Grow in mixed borders or in patio containers. Hydrangea are one of the easiest shrubs to grow in the UK, and are happy in sun or shade, and in most different types of soil. Hydrangea ‘Glowing Embers’ has classic Hydrangea flowers, slightly ruffled and blue when grown on an acidic soil, and pink in alkaline conditions. Hydrangea Macrophylla ‘Glowing Embers’ prefers a sunny or semi-shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding in plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively grow Hydrangea Macrophylla in patio containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Leave the faded Hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning Hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with Hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
