Beautiful, prolific and low maintenance, it’s fair to say that long-lasting Dianthus deltoides 'Brilliancy' is a garden superstar! Hardy and evergreen, 'Brilliancy' forms a dense mat of soft green foliage that acts as a fantastic ground cover and an effective weed suppressant. From late spring, it blooms with a profusion of beautiful, vibrant crimson flowers with delicate pinked edges - and it keeps on blooming throughout the entire season and well into autumn. This perfect low maintenance plant for covering bare ground in a sunny spot in borders and rockeries. Ideal for patio pots, ground cover, cottage gardens, alpine & rockeries and coastal gardens. Sow February to April. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Keep at a temperature of between 18-20C (64-68F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually takes 14-30 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, at a distance of 30cm (12in) apart. Plant Dianthus on any fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Feed and water Dianthus plants regularly until they are fully established.
