Pride of Rochester produces masses of pink and white star-shaped flowers in clusters, amongst curving branches of dark green leaves and has a lovely sweet scent that fills the air when you stand near it. Deutzias like to grow in moist, well-drained soil, in the full sun. Feed and water Deutzia plants regularly until fully established. Once established, Deutzia shrubs will require little attention. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a pair of healthy buds. On mature plants, remove a fifth of the oldest shoots from the base of the plant. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning.
