Aptly named Daphne ‘Eternal Fragrance’ produces non-stop, highly-scented blooms from April right through to October, which makes it almost unbeatable in terms of long-season interest. This highly rewarding plant is also low-maintenance and fully hardy, so it’s perfect for anyone who lacks time to spend tending to the garden. One of the key features of this lovely plant is its neat and compact nature which makes it one of the best daphnes for growing in a container. It’s best positioned on a patio where you can enjoy the heady fragrance of the blooms up close, or next to a doorway where the scent will greet you every time you pass. Pot up Daphne shrubs and grow them on in frost free conditions. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting in their final positions. Transplant Daphne plants into borders and containers outdoors in moist, fertile, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Choose a position in sun or semi shade. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, Daphne plants require only occasional attention. Pruning of Daphne is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering.
