Introducing the Carrot Fly Free Collection, a solution to the persistent problem of carrot root fly infestation. These specially selected varieties are bred for their resistance to carrot fly, thanks to low levels of chlorogenic acid, making them unattractive to the pest. The collection includes 'Resistafly', a 'Nantes' type carrot with excellent vigour and storage properties, 'Flyaway', known for its sweetness and smooth skin, and 'Nantes 2', perfect for early sowings under glass. With heights reaching 30cm and spreads of 15cm, these carrots are easy to grow and manage. Growing carrots from the Carrot Fly Free Collection is straightforward. Sow seeds thinly in drills 30cm apart from March to July for early, maincrop, or forcing varieties. Ensure the soil is well-drained and sunny. Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and thin seedlings to 5cm apart once large enough to handle. Protect later sowings with fleece or netting to deter carrot fly infestation. Harvest from 9 weeks for early varieties and 12 weeks for maincrops, storing in a cool, dry place for up to 4 months. Enjoy a bountiful crop of delicious, fly-free carrots all season long.
