The fargesia murieliae, known more commonly as the umbrella bamboo hits a perfect middle ground of being both practical and exotic, meaning that this plant is likely to fit in with your garden somewhere. Its sturdiness and growth rate makes the umbrella bamboo a practical plant for hedges and screening while its exotic appearance mean that it would fit in well in any exotic garden or as a standalone exotic specimen. Planting the umbrella bamboo in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil is recommended to yield the best results as bamboos dislike poor, dry soils.
