The salicylic acid works by breaking down keratin, which is the protein that forms part of the skin’s structure. This therefore results in the skin cells shedding away from the affected area. As the affected skin is removed over a period of time, the new skin that grows underneath will be healthy. The lactic acid is included to enhance the performance of the salicylic acid and therefore speed up the process of treatment.
