TransPennine Express

TransPennine Express (TPE) is a British train operating company providing regional and inter-city rail services between major cities and towns across Northern England and Scotland. The company operates key routes connecting destinations including Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, York, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Manchester Airport.

The service operates modern Nova fleet trains featuring comfortable carriages with standard and first-class seating options. Nova 1 trains run on Newcastle to Liverpool and Edinburgh/Glasgow to Manchester Airport routes, whilst Nova 2 operates on Edinburgh/Glasgow to Manchester Airport/Liverpool services. Class 185 trains serve other routes with three-carriage configurations.

TransPennine Express has invested over £500 million in transforming travel across the North, delivering improved customer experience with modern rolling stock, enhanced stations, and better connectivity. The service connects business travellers, commuters, and leisure passengers to key destinations across the Northern Powerhouse.

As of May 2023, TransPennine Express is operated by DfT Operator, the government-owned operator, following the previous franchise holder's contract ending. The service continues to provide vital rail connections for millions of passengers each year.
